Meet the Cover Girl!

Meet the Cover Girl: the story of the girl who ended up on the cover of Impossibly, Perfectly Normal.”

Her name is Jordyn!  The two of us met as freshmen at Northern Kentucky University.  On our very first day of class (Intermediate Spanish I with Dr. Blas Puente, MWF, 8:00 AM), we ended up sitting next to each other and didn’t stop talking from that moment forward. Over the years, we had several other classes together and we sat in the library in our self-created nook where we shared a desk, studied, and procrastinated waaaay too much.

Jordyn and I couldn’t possibly predict how much we had in common!  We had the same major, a similar upbringing, and an undeniable love for literature, music, church, and Christ.  Every conversation between us was a positive one.  Since we are both out of college now, both married, and teaching high schoolers several states apart, I’m so thankful our friendship has lasted the way it has.

Photogenically speaking, I’ve always admired Jordyn’s physical beauty.  Her long hair is to-die for, her complexion is gorgeous, and her bright personality is captured through the lens of every picture.  (I think all of my friends are honestly beautiful, but maybe I’m just biased?)

As I was getting closer and closer to finishing my novel, the first cover I created just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.  There was nothing “different” about it.  It was normal, conventional, and it definitely didn’t have that personal touch I was craving.

I thought of Jordyn.  I went on to Facebook, creeped through her pictures with her husband, and saved a few of my favorites to my computer (seriously, Facebook?  You shouldn’t be allowed to do that!).  Secretly, I made the cover without asking for her permission first.  I pretty much knew she would say yes.

It. Was. Perfect.

Immediately, I knew I had something special.  I reached out to her immediately, and Jordyn and her husband did, in fact, say yes to being the face of my novel!

Fast forward to the cover reveal, it was so exciting!  I am so proud to have one of my best friends on the cover of this book.  Jordyn and her husband literally look like the main characters of the book, Angie and Brendon.  Additionally, their picture really adds the professional and genuine touch I was looking for.  Not only are they a great “cover couple,” but the amount of support I received from Jordyn’s family means the world to me.  They share all of my marketing materials and continue to be advocates for my book sales.

When it came time for my book signing, I, admittedly, was a mixed bag of nervousness and excitement. However, I have the most supportive friends and family I could ever ask for, so verything turned out really well.

BUT GUESS WHO SHOWED UP ALL THE WAY FROM FLORIDA?  Jordyn!

My cover girl was at the book signing!  The face of my novel!  I could hardly believe it.  I ran and gave Jordyn a hug (sorry COVID) and I will never forget that moment.  I hadn’t seen her in over a year.

“I didn’t know you were coming!” I said.

Jordyn responded, “I didn’t want you to.”

Ugh.  What a great surprise.  Classic Jordyn.  Get yourself some quality friends because they make everything better.

Jordyn, thank you again for your love and support!  You are truly a blessing to me, this book, and quite frankly, the entire world.  This earth is a much better place with friends like Jordyn in it.

Dedicated to my impossibly perfect cover couple!
